Legacy Ignite Program – Ages 50 and Beyond
"There was no clinic-Only her hand, her knowledge, and her unshakable compassion"
Mrs Ou Sim, 72, survived the Khmer Rouge and spent three decades treating the sick in mobile health clinics. Legacy Ignite carries her spirit forward.
The Story
In post-war Cambodia, where villages were left in the shadows—without electricity, clean water, or access to formal healthcare—one woman stood as a beacon of hope and healing.
Mrs. Ou Sim, then a young medical student turned survivor of the Khmer Rouge, chose not to flee when the world around her collapsed. She stayed. She survived. And she served. With nothing but basic supplies, deep medical knowledge, and an unwavering spirit, she began treating the sick in remote villages—using makeshift shelters as clinics. Her patients were farmers, widows, orphaned children, even families of former Khmer Rouge soldiers. She saw no sides—only people in need. For over three decades, Mrs. Ou Sim led the local Community Health Center with humility, skill, and grace—restoring not just health, but dignity and trust. And even after retirement, she continues to care for those around her. Today, she continues to offer care to friends, relatives, and neighbors from surrounding communities—and even extends her healing hands to CYA volunteers when they fall ill during their service in rural Cambodia.
Her quiet service still reaches across generations and borders—still healing, still giving. Now 72, Mrs. Ou Sim embodies a legacy that cannot be forgotten. Her story is not just history—it is a living inspiration.
